About Forró By The Sea

Brazilian forró, Brighton by the sea, and a community that loves to dance.

Deni

Welcome to Forró By The Sea, where a little bit of Brazil meets Brighton by the sea.

Forró By The Sea was created by Jules and Deni in 2024, although their stories with dance started long before that.

Jules started dancing at 16, first falling in love with Latin music through salsa and later Argentine tango. Then she discovered forró and, as tends to happen with forró, got hooked immediately.

Deni grew up in Brazil with music and dancing all around him. Forró has always been part of his life, and if he’s not on the dance floor, he’s often behind the decks as DJ Papini.

They met through forró in Brighton in February 2024. When the existing Brighton forró community came to an end the following month, they didn’t want the dancing to end with it, so they created Forró By The Sea.

Since then, with the help of some brilliant Brazilian teachers, musicians, DJs and their lovely community, they’ve grown it into weekly classes and socials, courses, workshops, live music, summer dancing on Brighton Bandstand and their annual Forró à Beira Mar festival.

What matters most to Jules and Deni is keeping it friendly, relaxed and welcoming. You don’t need to arrive knowing anyone, or knowing what you’re doing. Just come along. There’ll always be someone happy to welcome you in and get you dancing.
